While I've not played SimCity in a while (since I enlisted into the army to be specific), I've been a fan of the Sim genre of games and especially SimCity. And it is really sad to read about the latest news regarding the latest iteration of the SimCity series. Firstly, Maxis is no longer developing this game. It's been handed over to another developer. And it isn't a realistic city simulation anymore, as the Chris B. from Tilted Mill, the new developer explains:
This SC is not a realistic urban simulation, which I understand, to many, represents the heart of what SC is. No one is blind to that. And if you're just completely turned off, even angered by the mere notion of any game called 'SimCity' that is not a detailed, realistic urban simulator, I absolutely understand that viewpoint, and absolutely respect it. I do want to say, though (with no insult intended to die hard SC fans) that we are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this venerable series, are extremely proud of what we have put together, and make no apologies about what we have managed to create. And while our past experiences (including contributions from many of you) certainly inform all our ongoing efforts, this SC is its own unique creation.I'm been looking forward to seeing how Maxis has developed SimCity 5 (the latest in the series) for the past few years, and to read that they had abandoned this game and passed it on to another developer really is definitely a disappointment! This new version, SimCity Societies seems to me to be a dressed up version of SimTown. Oh well. Looks like SimCity 4 is going to the last great game from the Sim genre. A real pity.
